Quick answer: A Shopify migration from a UK agency typically costs £8,000–£60,000 depending on platform, catalogue size and integrations, and takes 2–6 months. Agora Studio migrates stores from Magento, WooCommerce, EKM and OpenCart for a fixed £4,999 in 2–3 weeks, with no deposit — you see the finished store before you pay.
What a Shopify migration actually involves
People budget for "moving the products across" and are surprised by the rest. A full migration is:
Catalogue. Products, variants, options, images, descriptions, SKUs, prices, stock, categories mapped to collections, custom attributes mapped to metafields. This is where the platform you are leaving matters most — Magento's data model is the hardest to untangle, EKM's the easiest.
Content. CMS pages, blog posts, navigation, the legal pages nobody reads until they need them.
Customers and orders. Customer accounts (passwords cannot be migrated; customers reset them), and as much order history as you decide you need in Shopify rather than in an export.
Theme. Either a new design or a visual match of your current site so customers do not notice the switch.
Redirects. A 301 from every old URL to its new one. Skipping this is how migrations lose 40% of their traffic.
Configuration. Payments, shipping zones, taxes, domains, email notifications, apps replacing extensions.
Go-live. DNS switch with no downtime, and someone watching for problems in the first days.
What UK agencies charge
| Provider | Typical quote | Timeline | What you usually get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Freelancer | £3,000–£8,000 | 4–8 weeks | Data migration and theme setup. Redirects and testing vary a lot. |
| Small agency | £8,000–£25,000 | 2–4 months | Full migration, customised theme, redirects, basic integrations. |
| Mid-size agency | £25,000–£60,000 | 3–6 months | Discovery, UX, custom build, QA, training. |
| Shopify Plus partner | £60,000–£150,000+ | 4–9 months | Enterprise scope and change management. |
| Migration app (e.g. Cart2Cart, LitExtension) | £50–£500 | Hours | Data only. No theme, no redirects, no cleanup. You do the rest. |
| Agora Studio | £4,999 fixed | 2–3 weeks | Everything in the "included" list below. No deposit. |
What drives the price
The platform you are leaving. See the per-platform notes below.
Catalogue size and structure. 500 clean products is a day. 5,000 products with variants stored as separate products, inconsistent attributes and duplicate images is a data-cleaning project first and a migration second.
Integrations. Every system connected to the old store — ERP, 3PL, accounting, marketplaces, email — needs reconnecting or replacing. Each one is scoped separately by most agencies and adds £2,000–£15,000.
Custom functionality. Anything the old platform did through a bespoke module needs an app, a rebuild, or a decision to drop it.
Design. A new custom theme is £8,000–£30,000 on its own. A visual match of the existing site is a fraction of that.
Overhead. Discovery phases, workshops and account management are 20–40% of a mid-size agency quote. They do not move a single product.
What is included at £4,999
Every product with variants, images, metafields and SEO metadata (AI-written, human-checked). Collections created and products assigned. All CMS pages and blog posts rebuilt. Navigation wired up. A theme visually matched to your current site. A 301 redirect for every URL. Payments, shipping zones and tax configured. Domain and DNS handled. Go-live with zero downtime. Two weeks of post-launch support.
And the part that matters most: no deposit. We build the store, send you a password-protected link, and you pay when you have reviewed it and want to go live.
What is not included
App subscriptions. Klaviyo, reviews, subscriptions, loyalty — your monthly costs, not ours. We recommend and install them.
Custom app development. If your old store has bespoke functionality no Shopify app replicates, that is quoted separately. Most stores do not need it.
Complex ERP, WMS or 3PL integration. Scoped as its own project. Simple integrations through existing apps are included.
Full order history. Recent orders come across. Years of history is usually better kept as an export; if you want it all in Shopify we will quote for it.
Content rewriting. We migrate your descriptions; we do not rewrite them unless you ask.
Shopify's own fees. £25–£344/month, or Shopify Plus, paid to Shopify.
Catalogues above roughly 10,000 products or unusually complex B2B setups are priced case by case.
Hidden costs people forget
Apps replacing extensions. Five extensions that were free or one-off on the old platform can become five Shopify apps at £10–£50 a month each. Budget for it.
The theme you thought you would keep. Themes do not migrate. Either it is rebuilt or it is redesigned.
Data cleanup. Migrating bad data faithfully gives you bad data on a new platform. Fixing it is either in the scope or it is your problem afterwards.
The redirect map. Cheap migrations skip it. You find out three weeks after launch when organic traffic halves.
Time. A four-month migration is four months of your attention. A three-week one is not.
Cost by platform
Magento to Shopify migration cost
The most expensive migration on the market — UK agencies typically quote £15,000–£60,000, and Adobe Commerce migrations run higher. Magento's EAV data model, configurable products and custom attributes are the reason. Our automated pipeline handles that mapping, which is how the price is fixed at £4,999. WooCommerce to Shopify migration cost
Typically £5,000–£20,000 from an agency. WooCommerce data is reasonably clean; the cost is usually in replacing plugins with apps and rebuilding a theme that was tangled up with WordPress. The saving is not the migration, it is no longer maintaining WordPress. Fixed £4,999. WooCommerce migration.
EKM to Shopify migration cost
Usually the simplest. EKM stores tend to be small and structurally clean, and EKM's single £299.75/month plan means the ongoing saving on Shopify is immediate. Agency quotes are typically £3,000–£10,000. Fixed £4,999. EKM migration · Shopify vs EKM.
OpenCart to Shopify migration cost
Agency quotes are typically £5,000–£15,000. The complication is structural: OpenCart catalogues often store each size or colour as a separate product, which has to be consolidated into proper variants, and OpenCart's SEO URL bugs mean the redirect map needs care. Both are included. Fixed £4,999. OpenCart migration · OpenCart alternatives.
Timeline
Send us your store URL. Most stores have a working demo within days; the full build is 2–3 weeks depending on catalogue size. Your current store stays live throughout. Go-live is a DNS change on a day you choose.
Questions
Do I pay anything up front? No. You pay £4,999 when you have reviewed the finished store and want to go live.
What if I do not like it? You owe nothing.
Will I lose my Google rankings? Not if the redirects are done properly, and ours cover every URL. Most stores see rankings hold or improve, partly because the SEO metadata is rewritten as part of the migration.
Can you migrate from a platform not listed here? Usually. Actinic, Sellerdeck, ShopWired, BigCommerce, Wix, Squarespace and bespoke systems are handled case by case at the same price where the data is accessible.
